The Future of the Bay Islands
The Pandemic, hurricane Eta, and now Hurricane Iota have given us a lot to think about. They have exposed our poor health system, bad Education, bad Infrastructure, bad technology, and bad communications service as well as our terrible banking system in the Country. From the perspective of the Bay Islands, Roatan in Particular, community leaders, the private sector, and local entities should be getting together at this moment to work on drawing a plan of actions that will set us on the right track from now on forward.
Why wait for the last minute? haven’t we gotten enough warning signs? Does the bay islands have an evacuation plan? Everything that we are witnessing, should be enough to assess our current situation to get us ready for whenever we have to face Climate Change and the economic recession on the way.
True leadership consists of inviting all actors of the society to work for a common good. I do not see that happening on the islands and this worries me. I see a lot of people running to take a seat in office for the bay islands, but… Do they know what they are going up against? You see, this is NOT a one-man job. It will take more than that and recognizing this is vital since we are living in a dark era.
The unemployment rate is to the ruff, same as crimes, domestic violence, corruptions are happening right in our face and no one is doing a thing against it. Child abuse, rape, and murder cases unsolved and here we are still sitting in our comfort zones. Pretending like none of this is happening. Wake up Roatan it’s time for you to call the shots. Let us get together and least do this the right way.
